What Are Superlinks And Their Importance In Building Construction?

In construction different parts have their use for perfect functioning of the structure . The different parts give the building required strength and shape so that the structure is stable and safe. One of the important parts is the Stirrups.

A stirrup is a closed loop reinforcement that is used to hold the main bars together. They help to provide lateral support to the main bars. Stirrups are placed at fixed intervals and their main purpose is to prevent the buckling of columns and beams. Stirrups may be a small part but by using stirrups in construction collapsing of buildings during earthquakes can be avoided.

Stirrups are available in different shapes and sizes such as circular, polygonal, crosstie and U-shaped. Though the square and the rectangle shaped stirrups are most popular.

Importance of stirrups

● Stirrups are used in construction in a way that they do not allow the tension of the building to lean on only one part of the beam. Stirrups help to distribute the tension in the entire beam and this helps to reduce the stress at any one particular point.

● Stirrups help to keep the concrete, columns and beam in place. It also protects it from formation of cracks due to creep and leakages. Due to lack of moisture cracks can appear in the main bars but the stirrups help to hold them together and prevent them from falling apart.

● When stirrups are used they help to make the beams and columns appear larger and comparatively thinner and do not crack and break down.

● In the construction the concrete and the steel rods are used to help the concrete take the specific shape. The stirrups are placed next to hold them in position.

● Stirrups help to keep the concrete in beams and columns in place. They help to bind the concrete around the bars and hold it in place.

Manufacturing stirrups

Situps are made from high strength ribbed TMT rebars using automation. These ready-made stirrups are also called Superlinks. The ready-made stirrups are manufactured using strict quality control to ensure the dimensions, quality and consistency.

Using ready-made stirrups has many advantages, the main being the stirrups do not have to be bent and made on the construction site. Using ready-made stirrups helps to save time and  labour costs and leads to  zero wastage of material. The construction project gets completed faster.

Stirrups are made from TMT rebars which have properties like greater elongation, high strength, uniform stress bearing capacity, unbeatable ductility and superior bonding with concrete.

The rebars have greater elongation which allows the rebars to bear heavy loads, stretch under pressure and return to their original shape and size. The bars have a uniform stress bearing capacity of 500 MPa. The rebars can absorb extreme pressure and do not fail or break overtime.

The rebars are ductile and this property allows the rebars to bend and not break when exposed to seismic forces like an earthquake. The rebars can absorb large amounts of energy released during the earthquakes without causing any failure.
